PARKING REMINDER

October 2, 2007

Please, do not park in either American Child or the Partnership for Young Children parking lots when you plan to walk your child in each morning. Both businesses have limited parking for their parents and employees and cannot accommodate our parents/staff. ARS parents may park in the lot across Cooper Street (Record and Landmark), the lot behind First ARP Church, or in the public lot behind American Child. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us to consider the needs of our neighbors.

DISMISSAL POLICIES

Submitted:Tuesday
August 28, 2007

ARS and the Statesville Police Department are working together to help relieve some of the traffic issues in the downtown area during our dismissal times. We are asking all parents to help us in the following ways:

-Pick up time runs from 2:45-3:15 each day. Please do not attempt to park in our driveway before 2:45. This is a public street and parking is not allowed until our dismissal begins. This also relieves a lot of buildup traffic that slows down the rest of our dismissal process.
-Only RIGHT turns into our driveway are allowed during this heavy traffic time.
-At this time, all traffic will turn LEFT onto Cooper Street as they exit the car line.
-No pickups are allowed without the student's dismissal number. If someone different is picking up your student, please make sure they have your student's number before entering the line, or they will be asked to park and walk in to pick up your student.
The Statesville Police Department is working with the City of Statesville to create new traffic patterns to help everyone working and living in the downtown area in the afternoons. Please keep your eyes and ears open for new information in the newsletters and on the webpage regarding changes to our pick up patterns.

ARS POLICY CHANGE

Submitted:Saturday
August 18, 2007

As we begin our new school year, we are adjusting some of our afternoon dismissal and school policies to benefit both our teachers and students. We wanted to inform our parents of these important changes so that plans can be made accordingly before school starts.

1. Dismissal of all students will not begin this year until 2:45 pm. This is a change from 2:30 last year. This is to provide more instructional time at the end of our day. No cars will be allowed to pull in or park in the pick up line before this time. Dismissal will run from 2:45-3:15. Please remember that all cars MUST turn right into our dismissal driveway.

2. No student will be allowed to be signed out after 2:00 pm. If your student needs to leave early for any reason, they need to be signed out before 2:00 pm upstairs with Ms. Sandy Durham or picked up during our regular dismissal time.

SCHOOL SAFETY

Updated:Friday
May 18, 2007

*During arrival and dismissal ONLY THE COOPER STREET ENTRANCE WILL BE AVAILABLE. Please DO NOT drop children at the Broad Street entrance FOR ANY REASON during these times.

*Any visitor to our school during the day should use the Broad Street entrance between 8:10 am and 2:15 pm.

*If you arrive to school after 8:10 am, you must walk in with your child and sign him/her in as tardy.

*Children should NEVER be dropped off on the top of the Cooper Street hill. If you don't want to drive through car line, please park in the downtown area and walk with your child into the building using the Cooper Street entrance.

*The Broad Street entrance is not available during dismissal.

*Students will not be allowed to leave any school activities without prior sign-out in the school office.

During dismissal, we ask that all parents and students exit the building by using the downstairs dismissal area. No one should be using the upstairs door during this time. If you need to pick up your child early, you must see Ms. Sandy Durham and sign your child out for the day. If someone other than yourself needs to pick up your child, we must have a signed note from you telling us who is picking your child up. Thank you for your attention to these important details.

Effective August 20th, ice cream prices will increase to .75 per item. Cards will be sold for $7.50 for 10 punches. This increase is due to an increase in our price by the vendor. Cards left from last year will be used at last years' price, but any cards purchased after this date will be with the new price. Snack and ice cream cards will be available for purchase at Open House. Please make your checks payable to RAP. If your child would like to purchase snack from their class snack box, they must have a snack card. RAP does not accept loose change. Thank you for your continued support of our snack and ice cream fundraisers.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS TO ARS FAMILIES

Submitted: Tuesday

(1)  If you need to enter the school building during the day, to bring a lunch or to pick up a child early, we ask that you please use the upstairs entrance unless Mrs. Cook has contacted you about picking up a sick child.
(2)
Please do not drop off students at the top of our driveway on Cooper Street.  Their safety is our top priority, and it is not safe for children to walk down the driveway during car line in the morning.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

WANT TO HELP?

Interested in helping out at ARS?  Here are a few ideas:   Volunteer to assist with projects your child’s teachers are planning for the class (check out your child’s core page and individual teacher pages for specifics), tutor a child who needs a little boost in math or reading, sponsor an extra curricular activity such as Chess Club, Intramural Sports, Computer Club, Science Club, etc.,  donate copy paper to the Math Department, donate printer cartridges (HP 28, 27, 58 are the most common, but we also use HP Ink Jet 57, 58, 78, 45), help repair books in our library, chaperone for a field trip and lots, lots more.  We LOVE our volunteers!
