Bio
I am a Licensed Recreational Therapist. Recreational therapists specialize in improving ones health and well-being through interactive and educational opportunities designed to improve ones behavioral and/or physical skills. Recreational therapists are trained and certified, registered and licensed in order to provide these services.
I was employed as a recreatiional therapist at Presbyterians Hospital's Center for Behavioral Health for eight years. One of my roles as a therapist was to provide coping skills to preadolescents, adolescents and adults.
I saw a need to expand these life skills to the youth in our community and therefore, created "Life Skills Plus, LLC", training and consulting firm. My goal is to supply our youth with coping skills to deal with anger, stress, self-esteem, and to communicate more effectively in order to increase their quality of living and to better prepare them for adulthood.
I have developed many programs for Life Skills Plus, including: Intorductory to Advanced Life Skills for youth, Test Preparation and study skills, Effective Parenting Skills, and many Staff Training Programs which include powerful skills such as, stress management, effective communication, conflict resolution, effective boundary setting, listening skills, and effective skills to confront negative behavior. Please visit our web site at lifeskills-plus.com for more information.
I am delighted to provide part time guidance as a counselor to American Renaissance Elementary school this 2007-2008 school year. I enjoyed working with the third graders, staff and some parents last year! I will provide one to one counseling and classroom training as well as, any family counseling needed. I will be there to assist and to promote a healthy environment for students and staff!
I am married and have 2 children. Taylor-11 and Lawton-9 are both students in Iredell County Schools.
